May his memory be a blessing
Reservist Alon Farkas was fed up with the war, but he showed up to fight anyway. Yesterday, he fell in Gaza.
The Farkas family are mourning his loss. Family and friends gathered, sharing stories about Alon. “This is a salt-of-the-earth family; I wish there were more like them and like him,” said a close neighbor. “

Master Sergeant (Res.) Alon Farkas, 27, from Kibbutz Kabri, continued to report for reserve duty even as the sounds of exhaustion were evident outside.
Alon had already served over 300 days in reserves, on his third stint, and his friends from his unit felt he had had enough.
According to Ynet, "Alon, being Alon, saw his friends in the Raven paratrooper unit going for another reserve stint, and of course, he volunteered and showed up [too]. But this time, we felt he was fed up. He wanted to start living his life, but it was clear to him that if there were reserves, you show up. He was very troubled by the continuation of the fighting and had many tough questions about expanding the operation.”
They added: “This disaster is incomprehensible. We went through everything together. The off-road bikes were the symbol of our group; we’ll add a halo from above. We lost a brother; it’s incomprehensible. A heavy disaster. These are very complicated times. It’s a great pain that’s hard to grasp, and like Alon, we ask: How long will this war last?”
The reserve force of the 646th Paratrooper Brigade, in which he fought, was responsible for holding positions in the new security zone in the buffer area between the border and the Shuja’iyya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City in the northern Strip. The force went out on an operation outside the position, a terrorist charged at them and opened fire with a light weapon before fleeing back to the built-up area. As a result, Alon and another fighter were injured. Alon tragically succumbed to his wounds.
