Assassination attempt on Colombian candidate; Teen gunman nabbed | WATCH
Miguel Uribe Turbay critically wounded during campaign stop in Bogota.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after Colombian senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay was shot and critically injured during a campaign event in Bogotá, authorities confirmed Sunday.
The 39-year-old senator was holding a rally in a park in the city’s Fontibón district when gunmen opened fire from behind, hitting him twice. In video footage posted online, Uribe appears to be bleeding from the head as aides and supporters rush to help him.
He was rushed to Santa Fe Foundation Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. A hospital report said he is undergoing “neurosurgical and peripheral vascular procedures.” His wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, wrote on X that he is “fighting for his life,” and asked Colombians to keep him in their prayers.
Two additional people were wounded in the attack, though their conditions have not been disclosed.
Police chief General Carlos Triana said the teen suspect was found at the scene with a firearm and was also treated for a leg injury. Authorities have not yet determined whether he acted alone or under orders.
President Gustavo Petro condemned the attack and announced a reward of $730,000 (approx. £540,000) for information leading to those responsible. He said investigators would focus on identifying who orchestrated the attack and whether there were lapses in the candidate’s security detail.
“For now, we are working with hypotheses,” Petro said, promising full accountability.
