A deadly Iranian missile strike on Be’er Sheva early Monday morning claimed the lives of five people, including three members of one family who were sheltering inside their home’s reinforced security room. Among the victims were 50-year-old Michal Zacks and her child, 18-year-old Corporal Eitan Zacks, a soldier in the IDF’s elite Multidimensional Unit, and his girlfriend Noa Boguslavsky.

The tragedy has left the city reeling and underscores the escalating human cost of Iran’s ongoing missile campaign against Israel, which began on June 13 and has already taken 28 lives across the country.

Eitan Zacks, who had only recently begun his service in one of the IDF’s most advanced combat units (Unit 888), was home on temporary leave while participating in a remote paramedics course due to the ongoing security situation. At the time of the strike, he was sheltering with his mother and girlfriend in the family’s secure room (mamad), where they were directly hit by an Iranian ballistic missile. The impact was fatal. A fourth fatality occurred in an adjacent apartment in the same building.

According to the IDF, Eitan is the first and only soldier among the fatalities so far, with the remainder being civilians. His death, alongside his immediate family members, has shaken both his military unit and the local community in Be’er Sheva, where friends and neighbors described the Zacks family as deeply connected and beloved.

The IDF has expressed deep sorrow over Eitan’s death, noting that he had just begun his path in one of the military’s most demanding and prestigious units. His potential, leadership, and dedication made a strong impression on his commanders and peers, who now mourn a life and career cut tragically short.

The broader Iranian campaign has seen waves of long-range missiles launched at Israeli cities, disrupting daily life and triggering repeated air raid alerts. This latest strike, hitting the heart of a residential neighborhood, underscores both the scale and the indiscriminate nature of the attacks.

As funeral preparations begin, the nation grieves the loss of a young soldier who died not on the battlefield, but at home, alongside his mother and girlfriend, victims of a war brought directly into Israeli living rooms.

May their memories be for a blessing.
